I've been running around like a wild woman trying to get everything squared away for this extended absence from DC. People keep asking me - don't you have a list? Yes, I have about 4 lists, and each one is longer than the last. Packing for such a long time away should be pretty straightforward, right? Wrong. If I'm in Sudan, there will be an entirely different set of clothing than if I head to Kigali or Kampala. Plus, it's warm right now - but I'll be in East Africa through the rainy season, which means I need a variety of clothing. And don't even get me started on all the vitamins I'm schlepping over there. I have to keep reminding myself, "Abigail, they have grocery stores there." I haven't even attempted to pack snacks... it's not like I'll be in Gulu where dinner can take upwards of 2 hours.
What else have I been doing with all this vacation time prior to departure, you ask? Doctors appointments, cleaning out my room, suspending memberships, bills, and so much more! There's probably so much that I haven't remembered, but it takes a lot of work to suspend life for several months at a time. I'd post a picture of my empty room- but that's just sad. So, first stop - San Francisco to visit some family, and then off to Uganda. I'm trying to figure out what adventures to have, but that takes some of the fun out of it, right? For now, I'm considering gorilla trekking and another visit to Zanzibar... just some options on the radar. I'm most excited about seeing all my wonderful Ugandan friends again! I'm sure a lot has changed for them in the last few years, but that just means we have so much more to talk about!
